For Clients

EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) is a psychotherapy that enables relationships with important people in your life to become safer and more secure, and makes it possible to repair and strengthen relational bonds.

This approach is based on a deep understanding of how our innate desire to “connect safely with others” and “have secure relationships with important people” (called attachment), along with our emotions, influence our human relationships. In other words, it is an approach that values the science of emotions and attachment.

The primary goal of EFT is to build safer, more vibrant “connections” (secure attachment bonds) between yourself and important people in your life, such as partners and family members.

What Happens in Therapy Sessions

(While there are multiple counseling styles—individual, couples, family—EFT has been shown to be effective in all formats.)

Deepening understanding of emotions (your own and/or your partner’s)

Emotions are understood as vital signals that tell us what we are truly feeling and what we need. EFT helps you recognize and clarify these emotional signals, making it easier to express your inner experience to others.
In couple therapy, participating in sessions together allows partners to understand and experience each other’s emotions at a deeper level. This often leads to increased empathy, and research shows that through EFT work, intense conflicts can significantly decrease.

Recognizing Negative Patterns and Learning New Ways

We help you notice dysfunctional “habitual exchanges” and negative patterns in relationships that cause suffering for you and your partner. We assist you in breaking through these negative patterns together and transforming them into safe and secure patterns. For example, instead of always fighting about the same things, you’ll learn new ways to communicate where you can safely share each other’s feelings and support one another.

Building Secure, Strong Bonds

We focus on creating secure “strong bonds” with important people in your life. The goal is to build relationships where you trust each other and can rely on one another when facing difficulties.

  • Effectiveness has been confirmed for treating depression, anxiety, and PTSD, with improvements reported in conditions including these symptoms (Greenman & Johnson, 2022).
